Ahmed Alhaji Lawan, a Liaison Officer to the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has resigned his appointment.
He has also defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a major opposition party in the state.
In a resignation letter addressed to the governor through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Lawan said his decision was to enable him to focus on his political ambition.
“This decision is in line with the Electoral Act, which stipulates that any public officer intending to contest for an elective position must resign from their current post,” he stated.
“With reference to the above, I hereby tender my resignation as Liaison Officer to the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON.”
He expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve in his administration.
Meanwhile, the former liaison officer has also formally resigned from the APC.
In a separate letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Hausari Ward in Geidam Local Government Area, Hon. Lawan confirmed his resignation from the party.
He noted that his decision followed consultations with his family and political associates.
Although he did not explicitly state his reasons, his close associates revealed that his defection to the ADC is part of plans to pursue an elective position.
Confirming the development, one of his aides, Alhaji Hassan, said, “He has resigned from both Governor Buni’s administration and the APC to align politically with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“A formal declaration of his defection to the ADC will be made in due course.” he added.
