Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria Commends President's Gesture
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has expressed its appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his commendable act of donating his salary to support the Armed Forces. This noble gesture was lauded as a recognition of the immense sacrifices made by military personnel, many of whom have paid the ultimate price in service.
Call for Expansion of Initiative
In a statement signed by National Secretary David Bakare, the PFN urged the President to expand this initiative further. They recommended that he also include his allowances in the donation, as clarity on this aspect remains uncertain.
Demand for Transparency
The fellowship emphasized the need for transparency regarding the total value of donations from the start of the administration to the present, noting that the Nigerian populace deserves complete disclosure of such significant actions.
Addressing Economic Hardship
While commending the support for the Armed Forces, the PFN highlighted the intensifying economic difficulties faced by many Nigerians. Rising fuel prices and the overall cost of living have been aggravated by global tensions, specifically the ongoing conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
The statement pointed out that these factors have exacerbated the challenges following the removal of the fuel subsidy, resulting in higher transportation costs, food inflation, and steep prices for essential services.
Urgent Need for Social Safety Nets
The PFN called upon the Federal Government to promptly implement a comprehensive social safety net aimed at alleviating the suffering of ordinary citizens. They underscored that while it is crucial to support the Armed Forces, immediate relief measures for the general populace are equally vital.
“It would be a meaningful birthday gesture if the President extends this generosity to the wider population through concrete measures that ease suffering,” the statement concluded.
