The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, has appealed to the Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) to suspend its planned industrial action.
The union had earlier issued a notice indicating its intention to embark on a strike from April 8, 2026, citing unresolved grievances with the hospital management.
In a letter signed by its chairman, Elusoji Olumide, the union alleged that the Chief Medical Director had failed to address lingering trade disputes affecting the welfare, professional standing, and working conditions of its members.
Reacting in a statement on Sunday, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Tope Fayehun, dismissed the allegations as unfounded and misleading.
He maintained that they do not reflect the hospital’s commitment to transparency and collaboration, which, according to him, is recognized by other staff members.
Fayehun reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to staff welfare and quality healthcare delivery, stressing that the hospital operates in line with established standards for federal teaching hospitals.
“We remain fully committed to the welfare of our staff, the delivery of world-class healthcare, and elevating FUTA Teaching Hospital to the standards of leading teaching hospitals in Nigeria and beyond,” the statement read.
The management also denied allegations of arbitrary staff removals, forced transfers, demotions, and intimidation, insisting that all decisions are guided by due process and best practices.
While urging the union to reconsider its stance, the hospital called for continued dialogue to resolve the dispute amicably.
“Your cooperation is vital to sustaining progress and ensuring uninterrupted, compassionate care for our patients,” the statement added.
The management reiterated its openness to engagement and invited stakeholders to verify its commitment to fairness and professionalism.
