Labaran Maku, a former Minister of Information, has defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and is eyeing the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat.
Maku registered with the SDP at his Wakama Ward in Nasarawa Eggon, citing crisis in the PDP as his reason for leaving.
In a speech after his registration, Maku said he had received calls from across the state, urging him to contest the senate seat.
He mentioned that his late brother, Godiya Akwashiki, had a significant impact on his decision, and many people have been calling for him to run since then.
Maku, a seasoned politician, said he has a track record of supporting others in his zone, including Patricia Akwashiki, John Danboyi, and Philip Gyunka, to win elections.
He stated that he is ready to serve the SDP in any capacity, saying “it’s a privilege to serve at any level.”
The former minister emphasized that his decision to contest is driven by the people’s will, not personal ambition.
