The federal government has flagged off the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour in Kano, marking the start of a nationwide campaign to promote clean energy and green growth.
The initiative, hosted by BURN Manufacturing, brought together senior officials from the Presidency, federal ministries, development partners, and climate institutions to showcase practical solutions for tackling climate change while boosting economic opportunities.
Speaking at the event, Umar Sale Anka, Director of Climate Change at the Kano State Ministry of Environment, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, said Kano was proud to host the first stop of the tour.
“This reflects our commitment to job creation, environmental sustainability, and industrial growth,” he said.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology, Olamide Fagbuji, described the tour as a shift from policy ambition to implementation.
“The Renewed Hope Climate Tour is about solutions that work. BURN’s operations in Kano show how climate technology and carbon finance can accelerate Nigeria’s energy transition,” she noted.
Participants toured BURN’s ISO-certified clean cookstove plant, one of the largest in Africa, producing 35,000 stoves monthly with the capacity to scale to 100,000.
Officials explained how carbon finance is reinvested to subsidise stove costs, making clean cooking affordable while reducing harmful emissions.
Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, Tenioye Majekodunmi, said Nigeria was building a transparent carbon market aligned with national priorities.
“Projects like BURN’s clean cooking programme demonstrate how emissions reductions can also improve livelihoods and protect forests,” he said.
Since entering Nigeria in 2023, BURN has distributed over one million stoves nationwide and employs more than 700 workers at its Kano facility, which serves as a regional hub for clean energy manufacturing in ECOWAS.
Nigeria has also authorised the export of 5.2 million carbon credits to the UN’s CORSIA aviation scheme, expected to generate revenue for national climate initiatives.
