Female corps member’s death: NYSC official to spend 60 more days in detention An official of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, was on Monday, re-arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Abeokuta, on a four-count charge including alleged murder of a corps member, Victoria Ariyo.
Ariyo, 23, who was serving in Abeokuta, had died two weeks ago from suspected complications from an abortion procedure.
She who was reportedly in romance relationship with Olalekan, became pregnant and lost her life during termination of the pregnancy.
Olalekan who’s the Local Government Inspector (LGI) in charge of Abeokuta South LGA was arrested and charged to court last week Monday on two counts charges conspiracy and attempt to procure abortion.
He was arraigned before Magistrate, A. K Araba, and was granted a bail in the sum of N500,000 among other conditions.
There was however a twist to the court case on Monday following Olalekan’s re-arraignment with the amended charges including murder against the suspect

The police counsel Solomon Babalola urged the court for an order to remand the defendant for 60 days in first instance at the Oba Correctional Centre pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution(DPP)
Magistrate O.T Odubanjo granted the application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Oba Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the State DPP
The case was adjourned to June 1st for continuation.
