The Future of Abuja's Satellite Towns Looks Bright
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that satellite towns within Abuja are experiencing remarkable benefits from the ongoing infrastructure development and social service enhancements orchestrated by President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Wike shared these insights on Wednesday during his inspection of various ongoing projects across Abuja, emphasizing that the government's focus extends beyond mere road construction to encompass vital areas such as:
- Education: Several schools have been renovated and equipped in rural communities within the FCT.
- Water Supply: New initiatives are underway, including a satellite water project set to launch in Bwari, Karu, and Orozo.
- Healthcare: Rehabilitation efforts are being directed toward health facilities throughout the region.
This marked attention for satellite towns, Wike noted, is unprecedented and vital for the residents. He indicated that the forthcoming inauguration of the water project coinciding with President Tinubu’s third-year anniversary epitomizes the administration's commitments.
Furthermore, Wike highlighted the administration's resolve to bridge health infrastructure gaps by improving numerous health facilities scattered across the territory. He reiterated that the administration's mandate extends beyond just road works to enhancing essential public services in neglected communities.
During his project inspections, Wike expressed his disappointment regarding the slow progress of the road linking the Central Business District to Wuse along the Transit Way N2 Corridor. While acknowledging the satisfactory quality of work, he pointed out that the contractor had not adhered to the established deadlines, warning against any further delays.
To ensure expedited project completion, Wike instructed the Federal Capital Development Authority to prompt the contractor to enhance their progress and finalize the project by the second week of June.
In contrast, Wike praised the contractor's performance at the N16 Interchange connecting Jahi and Gwarinpa districts, remarking on the high-quality execution and expressing confidence in timely completion. He further commended advancements on the road linking the Body of Benchers, Nile University, and Baze University, describing both the pace and quality of work as commendable.
During his visit to Tungan Madaki, he reviewed ongoing work on the road connecting Bill Clinton Drive to Zuba, affirming that processes for compensating affected communities are currently in motion through the appropriate agencies.
