New Leadership at NLNG as Adeleye Falade Takes Over
Adeleye Falade officially stepped into the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) on Wednesday, marking a significant transition for the company. His appointment follows the previous leadership of Philip Mshelbila, who has recently been appointed as the Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
Background and Experience
The announcement of Falade's new position was made in a statement from Sophia Horsfall, the General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development. Before this role, Falade played a crucial part as the Managing Director of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, starting in April 2024, where he had a substantial impact on the LNG production landscape in Brunei.
Falade brings nearly three decades of extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly in the LNG sector. His career trajectory features significant roles within the Shell Group across various regions, including Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa. His expertise encompasses:
- Gas and petroleum operations
- Production optimization
- Engineering and operational excellence
- Business improvement
- Change management
Previous Roles at NLNG and Other Companies
Throughout his career, Falade has held several high-ranking and technical positions within Shell and its affiliates, gaining valuable insights into complex operational environments and multinational joint ventures. Notably, he served as the Country Chair for Shell Namibia earlier in 2023, overseeing all strategic operations and stakeholder interactions.
His robust background at NLNG includes a tenure as General Manager of Production from May 2019 to September 2023, where he ensured optimal plant performance and safety standards at the organization's prestigious Bonny Island facilities. He also held the Operations Manager role from July 2015 to May 2018.
In addition, between May 2018 and April 2019, Falade was the Regional Asset Management System Implementation Manager at Shell in the Netherlands, focusing on operational efficiency across global assets.
Education and Professional Affiliations
Falade holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the University of Ibadan and an MBA from Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK. These qualifications bolster his leadership capabilities within the competitive energy sector. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
NLNG's Strategic Direction Under Falade
As Falade assumes leadership, NLNG is poised for significant advancement amidst pivotal developments within the LNG industry. Recently, the company secured long-term Gas Supply Agreements (GSAs) with six suppliers, enhancing the feedgas supply to its Bonny Island trains. Furthermore, as the Train 7 expansion project approaches completion, NLNG aims to bolster its production capacity and strengthen Nigeria's status in the global LNG arena.
