Former Presidential Candidate Mohammed Hayatu-Deen Joins African Democratic Congress
In a significant political move, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who previously aspired for the presidency in 2023, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a statement released by his Media Office on Sunday, he highlighted reasons for this shift, including "worsening insecurity, rising cost of living, and a shrinking democratic space."
Hayatu-Deen, previously affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized that his decision arises from the current national challenges. He believes there is an urgent need for a credible alternative capable of delivering security, economic stability, and job creation across Nigeria.
He expressed deep concerns regarding the pressure on democratic institutions, noting, "Nigerians deserve real choices." Furthermore, he pledged to leverage his extensive experience in campaigning actively for the ADC as the nation prepares for the upcoming 2027 elections.
Reflecting on his motivations, Hayatu-Deen remarked, “Like many Nigerians, I desire a safer and more prosperous future. However, the nation faces fundamental issues that are being overlooked. My entry into politics in 2022 was fueled by these challenges, aiming to contribute to a truly open democratic space.”
He further lamented the disillusionment that has followed, stating, "The hopes and yearnings of Nigerians have been met with bitter disappointment. This realization has driven me to join the ADC, which I believe to be a vehicle for meaningful change."
For Hayatu-Deen, the predominant sentiment among Nigerians is a yearning for a government dedicated to resolving pressing issues and securing a better future for families. He noted the demand for a stable and reliable government that tackles:
- Insecurity
- Rising living costs
- Job creation initiatives
He stressed, “Our aspirations for the future must not be sacrificed on the altar of conventional politics.”
On the topic of Nigeria’s diminishing democratic space, Hayatu-Deen conveyed his alarm at the increasing suppression of voices and the strain on institutions, stating, “The opportunity for credible opposition and genuine choice is gradually being shut down. Democracy should offer Nigerians authentic options.”
In addition to his political aspirations, Hayatu-Deen recounted his success in the private sector, stating he has transformed companies from losses to profits, spearheaded nationwide economic reforms to generate employment, and coordinated charitable initiatives aimed at improving educational access for children amidst insecurity challenges.
“I am committed to applying my business and governmental expertise to create and preserve millions of jobs across Nigeria,” he affirmed.
