A former Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, Bashorun Tola Alabere, has emerged as the state chairman of the African Democratic Congress.
Alabere was elected during the party’s state congress held on Saturday, alongside other executives who emerged through a consensus arrangement.
Those elected include Dare Akinwale as Organising Secretary, Oloye Ola Amure as Legal Adviser, Kunle Adeloye as Secretary, as well as Ayodele Ogunsuyi and Bobby Omotoso as Deputy Chairmen.
Chairman of the National Convention Committee, Kehinde Agboola, who supervised the exercise, said the process adhered strictly to the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
He noted that ward and local government congresses had earlier been concluded, paving the way for the state congress and strengthening the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
Agboola also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to weaken opposition parties, while maintaining that the ADC remains a viable political platform.
“We are aware of efforts to undermine the opposition, but ADC is gaining strength and remains focused on future electoral victories,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Alabere pledged to reposition the party and work with members to expand its support base across the state.
Also speaking, a party leader, Bode Ayorinde, said the ADC has witnessed rapid growth in membership, expressing confidence that the party would be a strong contender in upcoming elections.
