A former governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina State, Engr. Mohammed Nur Khalil, has formally resigned his membership of the party, citing the need to pursue a new political direction after consultations with stakeholders.
Khalil, who was the NNPP gubernatorial flag bearer in the 2023 election cycle and a prominent leader within the party in the state, conveyed his decision in a letter dated April 10, 2026, addressed to the state chairman through his ward leadership in Kandarawa.
In the letter, the former candidate described his time in the party as one marked by “a deep sense of duty,” noting that he was privileged to lead the party during a critical electoral period.
He expressed pride in the vision he championed, which he said focused on the socio-economic development of Katsina State and the welfare of its citizens.
According to him, the decision to resign followed what he termed as “a period of profound reflection and wide-ranging consultation” with political associates and key stakeholders, that signalled a possible shift in his political trajectory.
However, Khalil didn’t state the party he is joining after his resignation from the NNPP.
