A former Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Sani Lawan Kofar Mata, is dead
He passed away in Kano on Sunday after a period of ill health
Family sources confirmed that his funeral prayer will hold on Monday at 9:00 am. in Kano.
Kofar Mata, a prominent figure in Kano politics, was an associate of former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau Shekarau
He played a key role in Shekarau’s political structure during the 2007 governorship election
The deceased began his political journey with the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) before moving to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011, and later to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)
Kofar Mata was also considered one of the a major contenders in the 2011 governorship race, though he eventually stepped aside
He has not been active in Kano politics and maintained a low public profile before his death
