Bruno Fernandes scored one and was involved in another as ten man Manchester United managed a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in the EPL on Friday night.
The Portuguese was up and about his usual standard against Man United’s bogey team, netting a penalty and having a hand in the own goal that put the Red Devils ahead a second time.
However, Harry Maguire’s red card allowed the Cherries a late equalizer in front of their fans. The match came to life in the second half when Matheus Cunha was brought down in the box for a penalty that Fernandes expertly dispatched to put Man United ahead on 61 minutes.
Bournemouth replied with the equalizer six minutes later moments after the visitors were denied a penalty for a foul on Amad Diallo.
The Cherries went to the other end with a well-worked team move finished by Ryan Christie’s low shot into the bottom corner beyond Lammens for 1-1.
Man United, in the hunt for all three points to cement their third position on the log, regained the lead four minutes later, Fernandes’ corner kick unsettled the defence and James Hill nodded into his own net for 2-1.
More drama ensued as Maguire was sent off for a foul in the penalty area, allowing substitute Eli Kroupi to dispatch the spotkick and claim a share of the points.
Bournemouth have now drawn their last five EPL matches, the longest draw sequence since Fulham in 2021. Andoni Iraola’s men have also not lost to Man United in their last six meetings.
Michael Carrick’s United improved to 55 points from 31 matches, four points ahead of fourth-placed Aston Villa, while Bournemouth are in tenth place with 41 points.
