The Emir of Potiskum in Yobe State, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya, has called on his subjects to take advantage of the forthcoming rainy season by returning to farming.
The monarch made the call on Friday shortly after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Eid Ground in Potiskum.
He said the call had become necessary, stressing the need to boost food production and economic stability in the region.
Addressing his subjects to mark the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, the Emir described farming as a “noble path to wealth” that can help tackle poverty and unemployment.
He emphasised that agriculture remains a crucial factor in Nigeria’s development, urging the youths to shun idleness and engage in productive farming activities.
He also cautioned parents and guardians to closely monitor their children, warning against the growing use of hard drugs among youths, which he described as a serious threat to societal well-being.
The Emir expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting Muslims the opportunity to witness and complete the 30 days of Ramadan fast, noting that such full observance had not been recorded in some previous years.
He described the moment as a rare blessing and urged the faithful to sustain the virtues of patience, sacrifice, and devotion imbibed during the fasting period.
The Eid prayer, which attracted a large congregation from within and outside the emirate, was led by the Chief Imam, Goni Isah, who offered prayers for peace, unity, and continued prosperity in the state and the nation at large.
