Former President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and worldwide on the successful completion of the Ramadan Fast, emphasizing the need for national renewal and unity in faith.
In a statement, Lawan expressed his earnest prayer that Almighty Allah accepts the fasts, night prayers, and good deeds of Muslims, and grants them the blessing of witnessing many more Ramadans in good health and faith.
Eid-el-Fitr: A Celebration of Spiritual Convocation
Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a day to reap the harvest of patience, charity, and devotion. Lawan noted that for thirty days, Muslims engaged in self-discipline and God-consciousness, denying the flesh to nourish the soul and feeling the pang of hunger to remember the plight of the needy.
A Call to Retain the Spirit of Ramadan
Lawan urged Muslims to retain the spirit of Ramadan, asking themselves what next after removing the white garment of Ihram and stepping back into daily life. He emphasized that the true test of Ramadan is not how well one fasted, but how well one retains its spirit, and that the month that taught truthfulness must lead to rebuilding, and the month that taught patience must empower confrontation of national challenges without despair.
Interfaith Harmony and National Unity
Lawan recognized and honored Christian brothers and sisters observing the holy season of Lent, noting the confluence of sacred seasons as a divine reminder of shared values, underscoring the common call to sacrifice, mutual quest for spiritual renewal, and collective duty to show compassion to the vulnerable.
He expressed his conviction that the same doggedness that carried Muslims through 30 days of fasting is the spirit that will carry the nation through its trials, and that the discipline exhibited is required to build the Nigeria of their dreams. Lawan urged Muslims and Christians to embrace the lessons of their different faiths with equal sincerity to build an unshakable foundation for the nation.
A Message to Leaders and Citizens
Lawan called on leaders to let the empathy of Ramadan and the solemn reflection of Lent guide their decisions, remembering that leadership is not about privilege, but about service to millions of Nigerians who look to them for hope, regardless of faith.
He urged the youth to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and determined, with their energy being the catalyst for transformation. Finally, Lawan called on all citizens to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and leaders, rejecting voices of division and hatred, and amplifying bonds of neighborliness and love for fellow humans.
