Egbema Youth Council Urges NDDC to Prioritize Udo-Ofunama Road Construction
The Egbema Youth Council (EYC) has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to accelerate the process of constructing the abandoned Udo-Ofunama road, a project crucial for the economic survival and regional development of Egbema Kingdom.
Importance of Udo-Ofunama Road
For many communities in Egbema Kingdom, the Udo-Ofunama Road is not just a transportation route but a lifeline that connects several communities and facilitates essential activities such as commerce, education, and healthcare. Farmers, traders, and students heavily depend on the accessibility of this road.
The council highlighted that the current poor condition of the road, especially during the rainy season, poses significant challenges for residents. Large sections of the road become flooded or muddy, making it difficult for vehicles to pass through. In the dry season, the road becomes dusty and riddled with potholes, further complicating transportation.
NDDC's Role and EYC's Advocacy
The establishment of the Niger Delta Development Commission aims to address the infrastructural challenges faced by oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region. The Egbema Youth Council has consistently emphasized the importance of completing the Udo-Ofunama road to enhance economic activities and social mobility in the area.
The council has maintained a proactive approach in advocating for development projects that benefit the people of Egbema Kingdom, emphasizing peaceful engagement with government institutions and development agencies. Infrastructure development, particularly road construction, is considered one of the most effective tools for transforming rural communities.
