Driver and Accomplices Face Court for Alleged Theft from Emir's Wife
A Magistrate Court located in Nomansland, within the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, has ordered the remand of a driver and two associates accused of stealing jewelry, cash, and a mobile phone from the wife of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Details of the Case
The defendants—Sulaiman Yakubu Kulkude, Idris Musa, and Abdullahi Usaini—were charged with conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property. During the proceedings, Barrister Abubakar Ibrahim, representing the prosecution, stated that Sulaiman Yakubu, who serves as the driver to the Emir's wife, unlawfully entered her residence and allegedly made off with jewelry valued at approximately N60 million, in addition to cash and a mobile device.
Defendants' Pleas and Bail Application
Upon the reading of the charges, Sulaiman admitted guilt to all accusations, while his co-defendants pleaded not guilty. In response, the defense counsel, Barrister A.A. Abdullahi, submitted a bail application to the court.
Magistrate’s Ruling and Future Proceedings
In a ruling delivered by the presiding Magistrate, Halilu Abdurahman, bail was granted under stringent conditions. The requirements include securing a surety who is either a father or brother of the defendants, a civil servant holding at least a Grade Level 15 position, and a bail sum of N10 million each. The case has been scheduled for further hearings on April 14, while the defendants remain in custody until their bail conditions are met.
