A commercial motorcyclist identified as Benjamin Isaac has been reportedly stabbed to death by suspected motorcycle snatchers near Leleyi Bassa village in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
Audu Gimba, a member of a local vigilante group who confirmed the incident to our reporter via telephone on Friday, said the attack occurred on Wednesday around 7:23 pm.
He said the deceased was attacked after picking up two passengers at Pai Junction en route to Leleyi Bassa.
According to Gimba, as the cyclist approached the village—about one kilometer away—the hoodlums, who had been pretending to be passengers, attacked him.
He said one of the men reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck.
The attackers then pushed the cyclist off the motorcycle and abandoned him by the roadside in a pool of blood.
Vigilantes later discovered the victim and rushed him toward a hospital, but he died in transit.
“The Okada man was still breathing when the vigilantes arrived at the scene. He even managed to tell them how the two men he picked as passengers attacked him. Unfortunately, before we could reach the hospital, he gave up the ghost,” Gimba said.
The vigilante member explained that security operatives were informed of the incident, adding that officers visited the scene to take photographs of the deceased before the corpse was handed over to the family for burial.
A police source at the Kwali Division, who preferred to remain anonymous, also confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is currently underway.
