The death toll from the cholera outbreak in Borno State has risen to 108, while a total of 13,234 cases have been recorded across the state since May 1, 2026. The latest figures were contained in a situation report released by the Borno State Ministry of Health and Human Services on June 19, 2026. According to the report, 71 of the deaths occurred in health facilities, while 37 were recorded within communities. “Cumulatively, from 1st May to 18th June 2026, 13,234 cholera cases and 108 deaths (71 facility-based and 37 community deaths) have been reported,” the report said. The epidemiological summary showed that the outbreak has spread to 17 of the 27 local government areas in the state.
A breakdown of the cases indicated that Maiduguri Metropolitan Council recorded the highest number with 7,083 cases, followed by Jere with 3,403. Konduga recorded 863 cases, Monguno 860, Mafa 618, Bama 108, Kaga 48, Gubio 37, Kwaya Kusar 28, Biu 25, Dikwa 16, Damboa 15, Ngala 9, Gwoza 2, while Hawul and Marte recorded one case each. The report further revealed that on June 18 alone, 236 new cholera cases were recorded across the affected local government areas. It added that 226 new patients were admitted for treatment, while 66 patients were discharged within the same 24-hour period after responding to medical care.
