Posters of prominent security analyst, Audu Bulama Bukarti, have flooded parts of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.
The posters, which feature Bukarti’s image alongside that of Governor Mai Mala Buni, appeared this week on public buildings and streetlight poles.
Some of the posters, reportedly sponsored by a group known as Seventeen Local Governments for Mai Mala Buni (17 MMB), have been seen along Maiduguri Road, Potiskum Road, and in Gujba.
Daily Trust observed that several social media influencers have lately been calling on Bukarti to contest the governorship seat in the 2027 general elections.
One of the influencers in the state, Maikudi Gashua said It would be a great loss if Yobe does not tap from the exposure and knowledge of Bukarti.
However, Bukarti is yet to make any formal declaration regarding the posters.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Yobe State Microfinance Bank and an ally of Governor Buni, Professor Shareef Almuhajir, expressed concern over the development.
He noted that Bukarti is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) hence cannot be linked with any aspiration under the banner of the party.
Karasuwa Local Government Area in the northern part of Yobe State, where Bukarti hails from has not produced a governor or deputy governor since the return to democracy in 1999.
Notably, other aspirants from the region reportedly eyeing the governorship seat include former Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, Secretary to the State Government Baba Malam Wali, and Federal Character Commissioner representing Yobe State, Hon. Jibrin Maigari.
