The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Borno State has announced the dismissal of its state House of Assembly candidate, Mohammed Bunu, following allegations of anti-party activities
According to a letter dated October 25, 2026, and signed by the NDC State Deputy Chairman, Umar Fema, Bunu was penalized for allegedly campaigning for the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar
The party stated that Bunu’s conduct is a direct violation of its constitution, rules, regulations, and established principles of discipline
The controversy centers around campaign materials discovered bearing the logo of the ADC, the slogan “SABON TAFIYA, SABON SALO,” alongside the photographs and names of both Atiku Abubakar and Hon Mohammed Bunu.
The party leadership noted that the appearance of Bunu alongside an opposing presidential candidate raised serious concerns regarding his political allegiance, loyalty, and ongoing commitment to the NDC
Tracing the disciplinary process, Fema explained that the matter originated at the Hausari Ward level
The Ward Executive reportedly invited Bunu to appear before them on October 23, 2026, to address the allegations, but he failed to attend
Following his non-appearance, the ward secretary, Rabiu Umar, recommended disciplinary measures and escalated the case to the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) Working Committee
Bunu was reportedly summoned a second time on October 24 to face an investigation committee, but again failed to show up for the proceedings
Upon reviewing the committee’s findings, MMC Party Chairman Adamu Ibrahim endorsed the recommendation for dismissal and forwarded the dossier to the state leadership for final action
With the state chapter’s endorsement, the NDC officially recorded Bunu’s dismissal from the ticket, subject to the party’s constitutional guidelines and relevant organs Bunu has been directed to cease representing himself as an authorized candidate or agent of the NDC.
However, the letter noted a distinction in the disciplinary scope, clarifying that any action regarding Bunu’s status as an NDC candidate should be evaluated separately from the formal termination or expulsion of his general party membership
