The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has announced plans to host the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA), aimed at recognising excellence and professionalism in the country’s broadcast industry.
According to a statement issued by BON, the award ceremony is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja, between 6pm and 9pm.
The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, which was endorsed at BON’s 74th General Assembly in Kano in 2021, is designed to celebrate outstanding achievements and promote quality media practice across radio and television platforms.
Organisers disclosed that the 2026 edition attracted a total of 204 entries, covering broadcast performances in 2024. The entries were reviewed by an awards selection committee chaired by Danladi Bako, alongside representatives from key industry bodies including the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria and the National Broadcasting Commission.
Winners will be announced across 24 categories, including Radio and Television Station of the Year, Best Reporter, Best Newscaster, and Best Producer, among others.
Beyond competitive awards, BON said the event will also honour distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of broadcasting in Nigeria. Those to be recognised for lifetime achievements include Shyngle Wigwe, Yemi Farounbi, and John Momoh.
Other honourees are Abubakar Jijiwa, Sa’a Ibrahim, and Bimbo Oloyede.
The awards will also feature posthumous recognition of late industry icons, including Raymond Dokpesi, Anike Agbaje-Williams, among others, for their lasting impact on the sector.
In addition, BON will recognise public officials and stakeholders for their support to the media industry, including the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu; Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal; and Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani.
Corporate organisations to be honoured include DAAR Communications Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, Desmins Broadcasting (DITV), and Voice of Nigeria for their contributions to advancing broadcasting in the country.
BON said the event would also pay tribute to industry veterans who have passed on, acknowledging their enduring legacy in shaping Nigeria’s media landscape.
The Executive Secretary of BON, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, and Chairman of the 2025 TNBA Committee, Mr. Bayo Awosemo, expressed optimism that the awards would continue to raise standards and inspire excellence within the industry.
