Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has been named Infrastructure Governor of the Year by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).
The award was presented at the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the award recognised the administration’s strides in urban renewal and infrastructure development across the state.
“The selection committee cited numerous reasons for awarding Governor Dauda Lawal, notably his significant progress across sectors, particularly for transforming Gusau into a modern state capital,” the statement said.
It added that BON conducted “a thorough months-long selection process aimed at recognising professional excellence and raising standards for media practice across Nigeria.”
According to the statement, Zamfara has recorded “unprecedented achievements,” including the construction of a modern international airport, rehabilitation of general hospitals and the building and equipping of over 800 schools across the 14 local government areas.
“The recognition by the highest broadcasting authority in Nigeria will motivate the governor to dedicate more effort to his mission to serve and rebuild Zamfara State,” it added.
Other awardees include Governors Bassey Otu of Cross River and Uba Sani of Kaduna, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, and media stakeholders such as John Momoh and Shyngle Wigwe.
