The founder of Harvesters International Christian Centre, Bolaji Idowu, has reacted to the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, urging people to celebrate and appreciate others while they are still alive.
Ekubo reportedly died at the age of 40 after a private battle with cancer, according to family sources who confirmed his passing on Tuesday. His death followed days of speculation and concern on social media over his health condition.
Reacting shortly after the news emerged, Idowu posted a brief but reflective message on his verified X account, writing: “Irony of life! We celebrate people when they die and ignore them when they are alive.”
Although the cleric did not mention Ekubo directly in the post, many social media users linked the comment to the actor’s death and the flood of tributes that followed online.
The late actor was widely known in Nigeria’s film industry for his roles in productions including The Bling Lagosians and Fate of Alakada. Beyond his acting career, Ekubo also built a reputation as a model and social media personality, earning a large following for his style, charisma and public engagements.
Since news of his death broke, colleagues, fans and entertainment figures have continued to mourn the actor, describing him as cheerful, supportive and full of life.
Idowu’s statement has also sparked conversations online about the culture of showing appreciation only after a person’s death. While many users agreed with the pastor’s remarks, others stressed the importance of expressing love, recognition and support to people during their lifetime rather than waiting until they are gone.
