Bauchi APC Governorship Ticket: Stalemate Persists As Ambitious Candidates Stake Claims
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State is experiencing a deadlock in the selection process for the party's next governorship candidate. Despite ongoing discussions, aspirants have yet to agree on a single candidate.
One key player in this political tug-of-war is Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare. Recent developments suggest that Pate might not have abandoned his gubernatorial ambitions, as he maintains control over the recently inaugurated APC structures in the state.
Adding to the complexity of the situation is the recent resignation of Yusuf Maitama Tuggar from his ministerial position to pursue the APC ticket. Other notable aspirants, such as Shehu Buba and Bala Wunti, are also vying for the opportunity.
The political landscape in Bauchi became even more intriguing when the state governor, Bala Mohammed, held meetings with APC national leaders. Speculation abounds about whether the governor will defect to the APC, a move that could significantly alter the party's governorship calculations.
Insiders report that the governor was offered the chance to nominate the running mate if he were to join the APC. However, no decision has been made regarding this offer.
Our sources indicate that the health minister was expected to attend a meeting aimed at resolving the consensus issue but was absent due to an official engagement overseas. Consequently, the meeting did not take place.
It is worth noting that despite rumors of his withdrawal, the minister continues his political activities and consultations. This ongoing involvement has unsettled other aspirants, who had initially believed that he had abandoned his bid for the governorship.
