The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Benue State, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, on Monday expressed confidence that a sitting governor will lose the 2027 governorship election
Aondoakaa said the people will decide whether the incumbent deserves another four-year mandate in the next election
The governorship candidate, who spoke to journalists in Makurdi election, dismissed the argument that no sitting governor had previously lost re-election in Benue
He insisted that the law only guarantees a governor an initial four-year term while the people decide whether to renew the mandate
“The law does not give a governor eight years It gives a governor four years. The other four years are what the people give you,” he said.
Aondoakaa attributed his confidence to what he described as the incumbent administration’s poor accessibility, insecurity and uneven distribution of development across the state
He said that previous governors who secured second terms were able to maintain closer contact with the people
“People in Benue value access If our governor cannot be accessed, who will vote for you again? Even if you don’t give them anything, the fact that they come to you and you welcome them and talk to them, they feel at home,” Aondoakaa said.
