Three members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State have died in a road accident while travelling to attend the party’s zonal congress in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Our correspondent reports that the incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday along the Makurdi–Lafia expressway.
State Organising Secretary of the APC, James Ornguga, confirmed the development, stating that some other party members sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi.
“Yes, we lost three of our members from Ogbadigbo, while others were injured and are receiving treatment at BSU Teaching Hospital,” Ornguga said.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, has expressed grief over the incident.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, the senator described the accident as traumatic and heartbreaking, noting that losing several people from a single local government in one incident is devastating.
Moro extended his condolences to the people of Ogbadigbo, particularly the families, friends and political associates of the deceased, as he also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and wished the injured speedy recovery.
