Influencer's Palace Visit Sparks Controversy
The Benin Traditional Council has taken a strong stance against TikTok star Habeeb Adelaja, known as Peller, regarding his recent unapproved visit to the Oba's Palace.
In a recent statement, the Council expressed their displeasure with Peller's actions during his March 6th visit, which they describe as a serious breach of protocol.
The Council revealed that Peller entered the palace without permission, leading to an investigation. Despite being instructed to cooperate, Peller has not presented himself to the authorities, prompting a public demand for his immediate appearance.
Serious Consequences and Apology Demanded
The Council emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that Peller's actions caused distress and embarrassment. They demand an unreserved written apology for the unauthorized access and the subsequent conduct.
The statement highlighted the sanctity of the palace, reminding the public that it is not a place for casual visits or content creation, but rather a sacred space governed by ancient traditions and protocols.
Disciplinary Actions and Security Measures
The incident has had significant repercussions. A chief has been suspended, a staff member detained, and a queen faces disciplinary action, including potential removal. The Council assures the public of their commitment to upholding traditions.
To prevent future occurrences, the Council is implementing stricter security measures. All visitors now require written approval, and restricted areas are off-limits. Unauthorized access will result in legal consequences.
Controversial Tour Stop
Peller's visit was part of his 2026 Nationwide State Tour, with Benin City as the kickoff. The tour aims to cover multiple cities for meet-and-greets and content creation.
The palace visit video sparked controversy, showcasing protocol breaches. Peller's interactions with a queen and a chief, use of inappropriate language, jokes, and leading a crowd into the palace grounds have all been criticized.
In addition to the palace, Peller's Benin itinerary included historical sites like Holy Arousa, the oldest church in West Africa.
