Seasoned Belgian defender Thomas Meunier expressed his “overwhelming excitement” as he embarked on a “new adventure” after officially joining Premier League club Sunderland on a free transfer this past Wednesday.
At the age of 34, Meunier, a distinguished figure in Belgium’s renowned ‘golden generation’—who recently captured attention during the World Cup in a quarter-final showdown with Spain—has signed a two-year contract.
The veteran, with 83 caps to his name, boasts an impressive career across top-tier leagues in Belgium, Germany, Turkey, and France, having previously played for Ligue 1 team Lille.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Meunier stated on the Sunderland website, “I am incredibly excited and privileged to join Sunderland.”
