Brutal Killing of Female Hostages Rocks Janjala Community Amidst Ransom Saga
The horrifying abduction of 14 residents from Janjala community in Kaduna State's Kagarko Local Government Area has taken a tragic turn, with reports confirming the brutal killing of two female captives. The victims were allegedly shot dead by their abductors on March 1, 2026, after resisting attempts of sexual assault.
The incident is the latest in a series of security challenges plaguing the region, drawing stark attention to the escalating violence and the harrowing conditions faced by victims of banditry.
Ransom Paid, Lives Lost: A Community's Desperate Plea
Initially, a total of 14 individuals, including a vigilante member and his wife, were seized from Janjala. The bandits quickly issued a demand for N14 million as ransom for their release.
Despite repeated pleas from the desperate families, the abductors remained unyielding. Through immense struggle and collective effort, the community managed to raise N13 million, which was delivered to the kidnappers at a designated location around the Hayin Dam forest in the neighboring Kachia Local Government Area.
Following the payment, the bandits released some of the women held captive but shockingly retained all the male victims. It was during this exchange that the families received the devastating news.
Alleged Rape Resistance Leads to Execution
A source close to the incident, who spoke to Daily Trust, revealed the grim details behind the two women's deaths. According to the source, the young girls were shot on the spot by the bandits' leader after they bravely resisted alleged attempts to rape them.
“As the girls refused to allow the bandits rape them, their leader ordered them to be shot on the spot,” the source painfully recounted.
New Demands for Male Hostages
Even after the tragic killings and the significant ransom payment, the ordeal for the remaining male hostages and their families continues. The bandits have declared that they will only release the men upon the payment of the outstanding N1 million balance and the provision of food supplies.
Confirmations and Official Silence
The tragic killing of the two women has been independently corroborated by various sources:
- A security source confirmed the incident, though details were sparse.
- A prominent community leader also spoke out, expressing deep sorrow. “In fact, it was this afternoon one of the family members of the abducted victims called to inform us that two girls among the victims had been killed,” he stated.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Kaduna State Police Command proved futile. DSP Hassan Mansur, the spokesperson, reportedly did not answer calls or respond to text messages concerning the development, leaving the community grappling with unanswered questions and a profound sense of abandonment.
