African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to end election rigging and strengthen the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if elected president in 2027
Speaking on Thursday at the ADC headquarters in Abuja during an address commemorating Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, the former Vice President outlined key electoral reforms aimed at restoring voters’ confidence in the democratic process
Atiku promised to support the prompt public release of polling unit results and vowed that electoral offenders—regardless of political affiliation—would face strict prosecution under his administration
“Anyone caught buying votes or altering election results will face prosecution,” Atiku said, emphasizing that every Nigerian’s vote must count exactly as cast
Directing his message to the electorate ahead of the 2027 general elections, Atiku urged citizens to guard their ballots, resist intimidation, and hold political candidates accountable He advised voters to demand clear, measurable policy plans rather than vague assurances.
“The coming election offers us a peaceful way to choose our course This country is yours,” he declared.
The presidential candidate further noted that, if elected, his administration would make public safety and economic affordability central pillars of its national governance strategy
