Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has praised the courage and professionalism of the troops, noting that their swift intervention helped safeguard the future of the young students involved.
He said the rescue mission once again demonstrated the military’s “unyielding commitment” to protecting innocent Nigerians, adding that the bravery and vigilance of security personnel continue to inspire hope across the country.
The Makurdi–Otukpo axis in Benue State has in recent times witnessed security challenges, with commuters frequently targeted by criminal elements.
He said the successful operation is therefore being seen as a major boost to ongoing efforts to restore safety along the route.
Atiku, however, stressed that while the rescue is commendable, it underscores the urgent need to further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
“Every Nigerian should be able to travel without fear,” he said, calling for sustained support and adequate equipping of security forces.
He added that the country’s progress depends on empowering those who risk their lives daily to defend citizens, expressing optimism that with the right measures, Nigeria can overcome its security challenges.
