Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed how he defied his father’s wishes to pursue a career in music.
The ‘Sungba’ crooner made the disclosure during an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, where he recounted leaving home at the age of 15 after his father opposed his musical ambitions.
Family Ties and Musical Ambitions
According to the singer, his determination to follow his passion led him to walk away from home despite their close relationship at the time.
“The father who gave birth to me, he’s more stubborn than I am. So I couldn’t look him in the face.
We were close when I was younger, but I came to a point when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no,” Asake said.
He continued: “But I just took off regardless. I was 15 then, focused on where I was going. And there was nothing anybody could tell me.”
Unwavering Love and Respect
Despite the disagreement, the singer emphasised that his love and respect for his father remain unwavering.
“Even if he points a gun at me, till eternity he will always be my dad, and I will still show him the same love,” he added.
Asake also noted that he holds both parents in high regard, underscoring the importance of family in his life.
Recent Developments and Reconciliation
The revelation comes amid renewed public interest in the singer’s family relationships following a series of developments over the past year.
Some key points include:
- Earlier reports indicated that his father, Fatai Ololade, had publicly appealed for financial assistance due to health challenges.
- A woman identified as Adijat alleged that the singer had neglected her and their daughter.
- Asake reportedly reached out to support his father, agreeing to cover his medical expenses and provide additional support.
