The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hussain Yusuf-Datti of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the by-election for Dawakin Kudu constituency of Kano State Prof. Ibrahim Tajo-Suraj, the Returning Officer for the election, declared Yusuf-Datti the winner of the election on Saturday in Dawakin Kudu. Ibrahim said that Yusuf-Datti polled 22,890 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Mr Habib Hamisu of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), who scored 270 votes. Ibrahim further disclosed that Abdullahi Adamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 108 votes, while Bala Mohammed-Sani of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) secured 89 votes.
He added that Aliyu Abdullahi of the All Peoples Party scored 53 votes, adding that Mr Abubakar Yahya-Mohammed of the Labour Party had 39 votes. “Therefore, Mr Hussain Yusuf-Datti of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” he said. Daily Trust had reported how the election held peacefully though it recorded mass voter apathy. Aso, the absence of key opposition parties in the state such as Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) reduced stiff competition in the election.
The seat became vacant after the member occupying the seat won House of Representatives election for Dawakin Kudu/Warawa federal constituency in another recent by-election.
