The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats and 176 out of 178 councillorship seats in the local government council elections conducted on Saturday in Yobe State
The Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC), Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani, announced the results on Sunday in Damaturu, the state capital.
Yabani said the elections were successfully held across 178 wards and 17 Local Government Areas, where 10 political parties participated
Giving a breakdown, he said the APC cleared the chairmanship seats, while the Action Peoples Party (APP) won a councillorship seat in Fune LGA and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) won a councillorship seat in Karasuwa LGA
“Out of the 178 councillorship seats, the APC won 176 seats, while APP won in Fune and ADP won in Karasuwa,” Yabani declared
He said councillorship results were declared at ward collation centres, while chairmanship results were declared at LGA collation centres before the final collation at the state headquarters
Yabani, who said the process started on April 23, 2025, under his predecessor, the late Dr Mamman Mohammed, observed a minute silence in his honour.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yobe State chapter, has accepted the outcome, describing the polls as free, fair, credible and successful
In his acceptance speech at the NUJ Secretariat, Damaturu, the Chairman of IPAC, Comrade Umar Adamu Jajere, said the peaceful conduct of the election marked a pivotal moment in the political history of the state
“On behalf of the entire leadership and membership of IPAC, comprising all registered political parties in Yobe State, I proudly declare our acceptance of the outcome We say unequivocally that the elections were free, fair, credible and very successful,” Jajere said.
He commended Yabani and his team for what he described as meticulous planning, transparency in distribution of materials, prompt accreditation and seamless transmission of results
“This outcome is a testament to the fact that our democracy is maturing The fact that multiple parties secured councillorship seats shows that the electorate are discerning and that no single party has a monopoly over the hearts and minds of our people,” he said.
Jajere also applauded political parties for their maturity during campaigns, and commended security agencies, particularly the Police, DSS, NSCDC, Nigerian Army and others, for their professionalism and neutrality that gave voters confidence
He expressed appreciation to Governor Mai Mala Buni for providing logistics, security and moral support to YOSIEC and for allowing the will of the people to prevail
“This is the hallmark of a true democrat You resisted the temptation to interfere and allowed the will of the people to prevail,” he said.
Jajere urged winners from APC, APP and ADP to be magnanimous in victory and to see their mandate as a sacred trust to serve at the grassroots, while encouraging those who lost to remain resilient
