Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has further strengthened the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State following the defection of the last opposition member in the State House of Assembly.
Hon. Yakubu Daniel, popularly known as Shetiman Bare and representing Billiri East Constituency, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, leaving the state legislature without any opposition presence.
In a statement issued by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the defection was described as part of a broader trend, coming after earlier moves by other opposition lawmakers, including members of the minority leadership, who had also joined the ruling party.
Receiving the lawmaker in Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the development was a strong endorsement of his administration’s leadership and the APC’s governance style at both the state and national levels.
He assured Hon. Daniel of fairness, inclusiveness and equal opportunities within the party, emphasising that the APC remains committed to unity, justice and sustainable development.
The governor added that the party’s growing dominance across all constituencies in the state indicates the increasing confidence of the people in his administration’s policies and programmes, as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his remarks, Hon. Daniel said his decision to join the APC was informed by Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s leadership,’ style, which he described as transparent, accountable and impactful.
He pledged his loyalty to the party and expressed readiness to contribute to its continued growth and success in Billiri East Constituency and across Gombe State.
The lawmaker was accompanied to the Government House by the Speaker and other members of the Assembly.
