Top All Progressives Congress (APC leaders in Bayelsa State including a commissioner for Special Duties (Bayelsa West) and a former Local Government Chairman, Micheal Magbisa, have defected from the APC to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Daily Trust gathered that NDC, already has four members in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, thereby forming the main opposition party in the APC dominated Assembly.
It was gathered that key political figures in the state, especially in Bayelsa West senatorial district, where the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and Senator Seriake Dickson, hail from, have already dumped either the APC or PDP for NDC.
Magbisa, had over the weekend tendered his resignation from Governor Douye Diri’s cabinet as well as his membership of the APC.
He made the formal declaration to join NDC on Wednesday at the party state Secretariat in Yenagoa, the city capital alongside his supporters, explaining that he left the ruling APC because of lack of ideology in the affairs of the party.
Daily Trust recalls that barely two weeks ago, Governor Diri’s key political mobilizer and kinsman, Comrade Doubara Kumokou, also dumped the PDP with over 2800 of his supporters cutting across both PDP and APC for NDC.
Kumokou, popularly called ‘Youth Governor’ by his young supporters, before the defection was leading the Prosperity Youth Coalition for Governor Diri in the state, had last year refused to defect with the governor to APC.
Magbisa, said he is now a free man and can have restful night sleep after he made up his mind to leave a party that destroys destiny and life of politicians, adding that there are so many people who were tired of the internal running of the APC but not courageous enough to leave.
Receiving the defectors, Bayelsa State Chairman of NDC, Hon. Dauprebo Ikuromo, stated that the NDC remains the alternative to all other opposition parties in the country, adding that the NDC remains the only party that is considerate and has seat for every level of individual and politicians.
