A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. John Suberu, has awarded scholarships to 40 students and distributed food items to about 1,500 residents of Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency in Kogi State.
Suberu carried out the outreach during his official declaration to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency at Ege in Adavi.
The aspirant, who serves as Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ahmed Ododo on Road Safety Matters, said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to improve the welfare of his constituents, particularly youths, women, and vulnerable groups.
He described the initiative as part of efforts to support education and cushion the effects of economic hardship among the people.
“I humbly ask you to bear with me, because what I am about to share is not just a speech, but a cry from the heart of a son who loves his people and can no longer remain silent while his land suffers,” he said.
Suberu identified major challenges in the constituency, including poor road infrastructure, insecurity, and limited access to quality education, pledging to address them through targeted policies and programmes if elected.
He also promised to create employment opportunities, support entrepreneurship, and implement empowerment initiatives for youths and women.
Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, Suberu lauded ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the state and across the country.
He added that through his foundation, aside from the scholarships, about 100 individuals received financial support, while selected beneficiaries were given mobile phones.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Yusuf Ohiare, who formally unveiled the aspirant, described the occasion as a moment of renewed hope for the constituency.
“Leadership is about uplifting people, creating opportunities and putting smiles on faces. Today’s programme is a practical demonstration of that belief,” he said.
In her remarks, a community representative, Mrs. Ftimat Abdulmalik, speaking on behalf of Ege-Iruvochinomi Ward, commended Suberu for his contributions, noting that his scholarship schemes and support for the less privileged had positively impacted many lives.
“We wholeheartedly pledge our unreserved support for your aspiration to represent us in the House of Representatives,” she said.
One of the beneficiaries, Momohjimoh Jamiu, also expressed gratitude for the scholarship award, pledging to remain diligent in his studies.
