Another lawmaker in Bauchi state has withdrawn from the 2027 general elections
Yusuf Abdullahi Itas, the incumbent member representing Itas/Gadau State Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, announced his withdrawal from the race under the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM)
His decision came less than three weeks after the Chief Whip of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon Musa Wakili Nakwada, withdrew his candidacy for the 2027 elections.
Itas, who is Chairman of the House Committee on Petitions, announced his decision in a letter dated October 5, 2026, addressed to the APM State Chairman in Bauchi
In the letter titled, “Withdrawal of Candidature for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency Seat in the Bauchi State House of Assembly,” the lawmaker formally notified the party of his decision to withdraw as its candidate for the constituency in the forthcoming 2027 general election
He described the decision as “entirely voluntary and personal,” while expressing gratitude to the party leadership and members for the opportunity and confidence placed in him to represent the party
The lawmaker also appreciated the people of Itas/Gadau State Constituency for their encouragement and support
Itas also serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs
