At the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Uzor Arukwe emerged as the winner of the Best Lead Actor category for his performance in the fantasy epic Colours of Fire.
Arukwe won the prestigious award for his portrayal of Akinbode in the Colours of Fire, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan.
His victory came in one of the most competitive categories of the night, which featured notable performances from Lateef Adedimeji, Mike Ezuruonye, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Wale Ojo and other respected Nollywood stars.
Clearly overwhelmed as he took to the stage, Arukwe admitted that he had not expected to win.
“I just want to say thank you to God Almighty. I never saw this coming,” the actor said.
“Thank you to everybody who has ever supported me from the start till now. To all the Nollywood practitioners, to everybody who has put in the work, producers and directors who have taken a chance on me, to Niyi Akinmolayan, Funke Akindele, thank you so much.
“My category was crazy. This is for everybody, all my fellow nominees. You guys were amazing,” he added.
The emotional acceptance speech drew loud applause from the audience and quickly resonated with fans on social media, many of whom described the win as a well-deserved recognition of Arukwe’s consistency and versatility.

For years, Arukwe has built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s most dependable performers, seamlessly moving between romantic dramas, comedies, action films and intense character-driven stories.
His performance in Colours of Fire showcased a deeper, more vulnerable side to his craft and is widely regarded as one of the strongest performances of his career.
The award comes on the heels of Arukwe’s soaring popularity following his role as Obiora, fondly known by fans as “Odogwu”, in Love in Every Word and its sequel, Love in Every Word 2: The Wedding, both released in 2025 and produced by Omoni Oboli.
In the romantic drama, he starred opposite BamBam Olawunmi Adenibuyan, whose portrayal of Chioma complemented Arukwe’s charming and protective character.
Their on-screen chemistry captured audiences, while the affectionate term “Achalugo” became a viral expression of love and admiration across social media.
The success of the films introduced Arukwe to an even wider audience, particularly younger viewers, and projected his status as one of Nollywood’s most sought-after leading men.
Born in Imo State, Arukwe transitioned into acting after working in the telecommunications industry.
Since making his screen debut in Unspoken Truth, he has featured in several acclaimed productions, including Sergeant Tutu, Code Wilo, Sugar Rush and A Tribe Called Judah. His triumph at the 2026 AMVCA marks a defining moment in a career built on persistence, talent and steady growth.
