The political crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress, ADC in Adamawa state has taken a new turn with the announcement by the camp of Senator Aisha Binani to dump the party.
The ADC in Adamawa has been embroiled in crisis for the soul of the party between the legacy, transition and Binani’s blocs.
The battle over structure between, the camp of Senator Binani and the transition group led by Former Secretary to the government of the federation,SGF Babachir Lawal has left the party in crisis.
Last week’s state Congresses conducted by General Ishaya Bauka’s committee despite a high Court order suspending the exercise that produced Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin’s led state exco angered other stakeholders.
After the Congress, the Binani camp summoned a stakeholders meeting which is now believed to have led to the wave of mass resignation by aggrieved Stakeholders in the state.
They said disenchantment and “entrenched undemocratic practices” informed their decision to quit the ADC platform as contained in a communiqué signed by Alhaji Umaru Mijinyawa Kugama and Saidu Njobdi Komsiri issued after a high-level meeting of critical stakeholders on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The stakeholders, drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state, declared a loss of confidence in the party’s leadership at both state and national levels.
According to the communiqué, the crisis was triggered by the conduct of recent party congresses, which they described as manipulated and lacking credibility.
They specifically accused the Ishaya Bauka led congress committee of subverting internal democracy and disregarding the will of party members.
They further alleged that valid court judgments and subsisting injunctions were ignored, while genuine aspirants and stakeholders were sidelined through intimidation, exclusion, and imposition of candidates, actions they say have eroded the party’s moral standing.
“The party has lost its legitimacy and can no longer function as a credible democratic platform,” the stakeholders declared, while passing a sweeping vote of no confidence on the ADC leadership from the state to the national level.
The group announced their “immediate and irreversible” resignation en masse from the party and rejected the outcomes of the congresses, describing them as null and void.
The development signals a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the defectors resolved to seek a new platform that guarantees fairness, justice, and adherence to the rule of law.
