Hon. Lanre Oladebo, the member of the House of Representatives representing the Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole Federal Constituency in Osun State, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. The announcement was made as the lawmaker received his membership card, signaling a strategic shift in the state's political dynamics.
Praising Adeleke’s Performance Over APC’s 12-Year Tenure
In a notable statement during his defection, Oladebo lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, asserting that it has outperformed the previous All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administrations. According to the lawmaker, Adeleke’s focus on governance has yielded more significant results within three and a half years than the APC achieved during its 12-year rule in Osun.
Oladebo highlighted several factors that influenced his political stance, even as he moves to a new party:
- Infrastructure Excellence: The lawmaker cited the rapid development of infrastructure across the state as a primary reason for his continued alignment with the Governor’s vision.
- Impactful Governance: He argued that the current administration has delivered more tangible benefits to the people in a shorter timeframe.
- Resilience Amid Financial Constraints: Oladebo pointed out that the Governor’s achievements are particularly impressive given the alleged withholding of local government funds by the Federal Government.
Calls for the Release of Local Government Allocations
Addressing the challenges facing grassroots administration, Oladebo appealed to the Federal Government to release local government allocations to the state. He stressed that the current situation is negatively impacting governance at the local level, yet praised the state government for maintaining performance despite these hurdles.
“We have had APC administrations for years without any seizure of local government funds, yet Governor Adeleke, in less than four years, has performed better. Let’s continue to support him to do more for our people,” Oladebo added.
Accord Party Expands Its Reach in Osun
The Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Mr. Victor Akande, formally welcomed Oladebo into the fold, expressing confidence in the lawmaker's ability to contribute to the party's growth. Akande emphasized the party's readiness for upcoming political cycles and encouraged residents to engage with their digital registration platform.
“We are here to present the membership card to the lawmaker in recognition of his decision to join us,” Akande stated, confirming that the party would provide full support to the representative as they prepare for the primary elections.
