The internal crisis rocking the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) worsened at the weekend following the swearing-in of Dr Markus Peter Danbaki as state chairman, splitting the party into three factions.
Before now, there were two factions in the state, led by Barrister Sadiq Dasin and Alhaji Sa’idu Naira, with each claiming to be the authentic state chairman
With Dr Danbaki’s inauguration, the number of ADC state chairmen in Adamawa has risen to three.
The factional Legal Adviser of the party, Barrister Ibrahim Ahmad, administered the oath of office and allegiance to Dr Markus Peter Danbaki in Yola.
Our correspondent reports that the ceremony was attended by members of the State Working Committee, party supporters, family members, and key stakeholders
In his acceptance speech, Danbaki pledged to operate an open-door policy, ensuring that all decisions are made in consultation with all segments of the party in the interest of the membership He noted that a lack of internal democracy was responsible for the party’s unnecessary internal crisis.
Danbaki promised to prioritize unity of purpose and strengthen the well-being of the party and its members so that all candidates contesting various positions can emerge victorious in the upcoming 2027 general elections
He also declared his executive’s loyalty to the leadership of Alhaji Muhammad Shuwa and Nafi’u Bala at the state and national levels, maintaining that the prolonged squabbles bedeviling the party have come to an end, as this marks a new dawn for the ADC in the state
Dr Danbaki’s emergence followed an appointment letter addressed to him by the state Secretary of the party, Zubairu Ishaq Mohammed, dated August 20, 2026, titled “Appointment as the State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adamawa State.”
Political pundits in the state expressed concern that the ongoing leadership tussle could jeopardize the ADC’s chances if not resolved quickly, especially with the general elections drawing near
The National Assistant Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hassan Muhammadu, popularly known as Babadan Dukku, has resigned his membership of the party
Muhammadu, who also served as the Zonal Secretary of the North-East Zonal Working Committee of the ADC, announced his resignation in a letter dated September 9, 2026, addressed to the party’s chairman in Bojude Ward, Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State
In the letter titled “Withdrawal of Membership from the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” the former national officer stated that he was resigning from the party and all positions he held under its platform
He said the decision followed “deep reflection and esteemed regard,” without giving specific reasons for his departure
Muhammadu thanked the party leadership for the support and opportunity given to him to serve the ADC at various levels
