Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State for the 2027 elections, has strongly countered allegations raised by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and NDC chieftain, Engr David Babachir Lawal.
The feud follows claims by Lawal accusing Binani and other North-East NDC governorship candidates of working against the party’s national interests after they rejected his self-proclaimed leadership in the zone
Responding through the Director of Media and Public Affairs for her Campaign Organisation, Mathias Yohanna, in Yola over the weekend, Binani dismissed Lawal’s accusations, stating she would not be intimidated by “indecent language” or personal attacks
Binani clarified that her stance was the result of a democratically convened meeting of NDC gubernatorial candidates across the North-East, where a collective decision was made to recognize Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party’s leader in the Northern region.
“Engr Babachir Lawal, in his characteristic manner, seems poised for destruction rather than building the party and supporting individuals who have dissipated energy and resources to move the NDC to greater heights,” the campaign organization stated.
The statement emphasized that political leadership within the party must be built on mutual respect and democratic consensus rather than individual ambition
“While we respect elders who stand for the truth, our respect should not be taken for granted We must admit that conscience, integrity, and respect for one another should be the bases of any sound political engineering,” the statement read.
Calling on the national leadership of the NDC to intervene, the Binani Campaign Organisation urged party executives to caution Lawal against divisive actions and mandate adherence to majority decisions to maintain internal stability
“Statesmen are known for building bridges of unity and progress in any society,” Yohanna added “While we respect the constitutional rights of individuals to freely express themselves, the constitution of our great party does not permit the use of cruel, indecent, and unschooled language in official debates. This calls for unmasking malignant narcissists from their grand delusions of seeing themselves as demigods.”
