Five herders were killed on Sunday evening in Kassa community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State
The deceased – Buhari Yusuf, Aminu Ahmad, Nasiru Abdullahi, Gambo Abubakar and Muhammad Abdul Rahman, were buried on Monday in Muslim Cemetery in Bokkos
The victims were killed when they were transporting cattle from Bokkos to Jos South in a J5 vehicle Gunmen reportedly opened fire on the vehicle around 3pm, killing the herders and the cattle.
Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital
Speaking during the burial, the sector commander of Operation Enduring Peace in Bokkos,
Lt Cl. Luke Adejo, condemned the incident and called on the herding community to remain calm and not retaliate.
MACBAN state Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, condemned the incident and called on security forces to investigate the incident and take appropriate measures against those responsible
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government has imposed an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of the state following the attacks and killings in the LGAs
Our correspondent reports that, within two days, over 20 people, including women, were killed in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Riyom LGAs Many houses were also burned in the attacks.
Announcing the curfew, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said the decision takes effect from Monday, September 21, 2026, saying movements were restricted between 6pm and 6am until further notice, with security operatives directed to enforce the order
The Commissioner said the decision was aimed at maintaining public order and preventing a breakdown of law and order
