The police have rescued a three-day-old baby, who was snatched from her mother’s arms at Unguwan Bako, Orange Market in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
Aisha Bada, the 19-year-old mother, had told Daily Trust how two men stormed her room while she was asleep with her baby the previous weekend.
“I was asleep when I heard a loud knock on my door. Before I could react, two hefty men forced their way in. One grabbed my neck and covered my mouth, while the other took my baby and ran away,” she had said.
Aisha added that she struggled to raise an alarm but could not get immediate help.
Her husband was away in Lagos at the time.
Chief Abubakar Yusuf Mai Anguwa Baƙo, the community leader, confirmed the abduction and said the incident had been reported to the police.
On Friday, Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa Police Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, announced that the baby had been rescued while two suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime.
“According to Aisha, the abduction happened while she was asleep with her baby in her uncompleted building, and two unidentified men broke in, threatened her with violence, and took the baby.”
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed detectives to investigate the incident and track down the suspects.
“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested two suspects, Furera Abdulrahman, 35, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, on April 3, 2026, at around 4:00 am.”
He added that the abducted baby boy was found in their possession and was successfully rescued.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and implicated an accomplice who is currently at large.”
According to the PPRO, the rescued baby was taken to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was examined and certified to be in good health and has since been reunited with his parents.
The case is currently under investigation, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The Nasarawa State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property.
The police urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for further investigation.
