The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Ogun State, Alhaji Agbongboakala Olaniyi Okewole, has said the party will replicate its recent electoral success in Osun State in the 2027 Ogun governorship election
Okewole made the declaration in Abeokuta while speaking at the unveiling of the party’s 2027 governorship campaign council and the flag-off of the “Ogun Lighting Project”, an initiative under which Accord said 300 solar-powered streetlights would be installed in rural communities across the three senatorial districts of the state
The Accord candidate said the party is prepared to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the outcome of the recent Osun governorship election had demonstrated that political change is possible
“Come February 2026, Ogun people are prepared We will replicate what happened in Osun, and we will do it well,” he said.
The Osun governorship election was held on August 15, 2026, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of Accord as winner with 511,067 votes, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes
Daily Trust reports that Adeleke won the election despite what analysts called political intimidation and deployment of federal might
Speaking on the political contest in Ogun, Okewole said, “Ogun people are well informed Ogun people are tired of what they perceive as a government that is insensitive, unresponsive to their yearnings and unwilling to live up to its promises.
“I have no doubt that my people have already reached their own conclusions privately They are no longer whispering it; it is becoming a definite statement that they are tired of APC.”
Okewole said his campaign would focus on presenting what he described as alternative policies rather than relying on inducements
“They will give people money because they will continue to campaign to the pockets of Ogun people
“We are campaigning to the conscience and hearts of Ogun people because we do not intend to commodify any Ogun indigene”
He also challenged the party’s supporters to take its message to communities across the state
“If we desire change, we can bring about that change All we need to do is begin telling people about our cause,” he said.
On his policy agenda, the Accord candidate promised to launch what he called “Operation No Pothole” from the first day of his administration, saying his government would intervene on roads irrespective of whether they were under state or federal jurisdiction, subject to the necessary approvals
“There will be no demarcation as to whether a road is a state or federal road There are no federal people. Everyone who plies a road in Ogun State is either an Ogun resident or a visitor.
“We cannot afford to leave our roads unattended simply because we are waiting for the Federal Government to come and repair them Therefore, there will be Operation No Pothole in Ogun State.”
Earlier, the state chairman of Accord, Hon Oke Rotimi Michael, said the party’s “Ogun Lighting Project” was designed to address infrastructure gaps in rural communities.
The pilot project will provide 100 solar streetlights to selected communities in each of Ogun’s three senatorial districts, making 300 installations in all
Oke said the project was intended to improve security and stimulate economic activities after sunset
He described the initiative as a pilot scheme, adding, “If everything goes well, the next phase could be 1,000 solar streetlights By God’s grace, we will be able to do it.”
He further said the party would recognise a retired public servant for her service to Ogun State
The Accord chairman also announced the first set of officials of the party’s 2027 governorship campaign council
Okewole will serve as chairman of the council, while Oke will be vice-chairman Alhaji Tunji Azeez was named Director-General, with Hon. Dasaolu Babatunde as Deputy Director-General.
At the event, the Accord Party also honoured and empowered retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Anifa Bello Abiodun, popularly known as “Aunty Anifa,” the celebrated beloved traffic warden from Abeokuta, Ogun State, who retired in 2026 after 35 years of dedicated service
The party presented a deep freezer, a plaque of honour and cash gift due to her exceptional service and diligence while in service
