Elders and key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara North Senatorial District have intensified calls for a power shift ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
They urged Kwarans across all divides to support a just struggle against the “politics of exclusion”.
Daily Trust reports that the district is yet to produce a governor since the return of the democratic dispensation in 1999.
At a well attended media briefing in Ilorin, the leaders made a strong case for the zoning of the APC governorship ticket to Kwara North.
They insisted that the demand is rooted in equity, fairness and the need to deepen democratic balance in the state.
Former Minister of Transport, Hon Isa Bio Ibrahim, who led the delegation, said their agitation for power rotation is driven by a compelling need to correct longstanding imbalance and fast track development in the area.
He appealed to political leaders and stakeholders in Kwara Central and Kwara South to support the cause, stressing that the moment calls for unity, mutual understanding and a shared commitment to justice and collective progress.
“We therefore call on our great party, the APC, to zone its gubernatorial ticket to Kwara North Senatorial District, in the interest of justice, equity, fairness and unity.
“This is not a demand borne out of sentiment but a reasonable and compelling case grounded in fairness and democratic balance”, he noted.
He argued that allowing Kwara North to produce the next governor would strengthen trust among the three senatorial districts and foster a more inclusive governance structure.
According to him, the zone is not lacking in capable hands, pointing to a pool of experienced politicians, technocrats and public servants with proven records of leadership and service.
“Kwara North is home to seasoned leaders and accomplished professionals who are well equipped to govern and deliver meaningful development across all parts of the state,” Ibrahim added.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Engr Salihu Yakubu Danladi, dismissed suggestions of disunity among aspirants from the region, insisting that Kwara North remains united in its quest for power rotation.
“There is no division among us. The people of Kwara North are united in this struggle and committed to ensuring that the principles of fairness and inclusiveness prevail,” he said.
He added that the push for the governorship ticket represents a collective agenda aimed at strengthening inter regional harmony and consolidating existing political relationships across the state.
Other prominent political figures from the district at the event include Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar who currently represents Kwara North at the National Assembly, Makama Lafiagi and former SDP governorship aspirant and international Businessman, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu.
Also present were Hon Mohammed Omar Bio, member representing Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency in the House Representatives; Dr Ahmed Adamu Saba, member representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; former Senator Mohammed Ahmed; and former Ambassador Nurudeen Mohammed, among others.
