The Ilorin Emirate has said it has set a target of one million registered voters a in order to confirm its voting strength ahead of the 2027 general elections
The development, the Emirate pointed out, is to demonstrate its strength amid rhetoric about the voting population among Kwara’s three senatorial districts.
Although the Ilorin Emirate, comprising Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Asa Local Government Areas, holds the largest voting strength in Kwara State, agitation from other senatorial districts has thrown up fresh political permutations ahead of 2027
Speaking at a media briefing, its Political Advisory Council said the decision was reached following a review of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise and the outline of its broader political direction.
National Coordinator of the council, Yakub Yahaya Oloriegbe, said the target would be driven by the addition of at least 300,000 new registrants to the existing voter strength of over 700,000 in Kwara Central.
“With the third phase of the exercise set to begin soon, we are optimistic that our collective efforts will significantly expand our voter base to an average of one million registered voters,” he said.
Oloriegbe noted that mobilisation has intensified across communities, with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, artisans, transporters and market associations enlisted to boost participation.
He added that the council is also working with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deepen voter sensitisation and public enlightenment.
