Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has intensified efforts to bring former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, back the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of ongoing political realignments in the state.
Daily Trust gathered that Governor Yusuf held a special meeting with Shekarau in Abuja on Sunday night.
A source close to the former governor confirmed the meeting, describing it as part of wider consultations aimed at persuading Shekarau to return to the APC.
During the visit, the governor was with the APC Chairman in Kano state, Umar Haruna Doguwa.
The governor’s visit is coming barely a week after Shekarau hinted at dumping the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), though he ruled out joining the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Shekarau, who previously served as Minister of Education and remains a respected elder statesman in the PDP and Kano politics, is viewed as a potential game-changer should he accept the APC’s overtures.
His entry into the party would significantly reinforce it in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
For now, the two-term former governor has not publicly declared his position, but insiders suggest that negotiations are ongoing and that he may finally rejoin the APC.
